U-Haul Rates
U-Haul is far and away one of the most popular moving companies in the United States mainly because they seem to be everywhere. To rent a U-Haul truck is like buying a hot dog on the corner of New York, that’s how common they are. With that said, be the most popular moving service in the country has its problems with customers. In the case of this company the biggest thing is prices and hidden fees. Moving within the same city and using the same pickup and dropoff area is actually pretty cheap, ranging from $19.99 to $39.99 depending on the size of the truck. This company is a great choice for a short distance moving service.
U-Haul rates go up though on a cross country prices. Going from the middle of the country (Chicago for example) to a coast will cost you somewhere between $1500 and $2000, which isn’t very good when you consider Upack service. You also have to factor in the use of gas, which you must pay for and will bleed you dry if you have to move a long distance. It is my impression that U-Haul trucks are best used for the short distance, it seems like the only monetarily viable option with this service.
Quality of U-Haul services are always of the lower end of the spectrum it seems, in part do the franchising of the U-Haul business. Service will vary from city to city so keep that in mind. Also, read the fine print as hidden costs are one of this companies big money makers. Damages in trucks are common and you must right them all down before rental. Because of this, renting a U-Haul truck for moving can be a lengthy process as their rentals have been around forever and have accumulated much damage, which they’ll blame you for if you don’t account for it.
U-Haul, ultimately, is best for short distance moving. Going to a new apartment, or from a college dorm to new digs is the best use for this services. The cost of U-Haul trucks is just to high to justify spending on cross country moving. The rates of hidden costs are also an issue as it the quality of the service, so dealing with a U-Haul trailer company for the least amount as possible is the best bet.
